Part 7 - Basic Bibliography on the Book of Mormon. As a Latter-day Saint who is frequently appalled at the inaccuracies I see as numerous writers attempt to explain our faith, I found this article refreshing. The writer has done her homework and actually seems to understand how we fit in with traditional Christianity. This is a beautifully written article, as we've come to expect from Ms.
However, I have one major disagreement with it -- the Bible is viewed by Mormons as severely flawed. The other scriptures given through Joseph Smith are viewed as much more reliable. The Bible is therefore not taken as seriously, by Mormons, as it is by Protestants. For example, there are no serious commentaries on a book of the Bible, by a Mormon, that I know of.
Typical Mormon views of the Old Testament do not do justice to the complexity of the book. The same is probably true of the New Testament. Thank you. In general, I would say the reason that Latter-day Saints do not contribute more scholarly works on the Bible is that there is so much potential work on the Book of Mormon and other modern scriptures, and so much work doen on the Bible, that there does not seem to be a compelling need. That said, Donald F. Parry is a Latter-day Saint, and also a leadering scholar on the Old Testament. Victor L. Ludlow has also done much scholarship especially on Isaiah, and Wilfred Griggs has done deep scholarship on the New Testament.

I personally consider myself an agnostic that accepts and incorporates the positive values of every religion, and I find it annoying when people argue trying to contradict each other. Again, you have my thanks on remaining neutral. Jump to navigation Google Tag Manager.
