The language is rich, challenging, delicious, imaginative, provocative. The story is a captivating , a true, first person autobiographical account of a war weary discharged special forces soldier who now after having experienced the life at it's grittiest is searching for what it all means. It raises life's toughest questions and gives no easy answers, but the thoughtful exploration of a bright young man who was once confronted with men of war is now confronted with men of peace.

Perhaps some of the most delightful aspects are the fascinating characters the author meets on his way. It has been said "I'm a part of everyone I've met. It's a story that could resonate with you for days even years to come. This is a "stand alone" memoir that artfully captures two unique experiences few of us would have the creativity to dream up much less execute. But to me " Company of Stone " is the second half of a two book set. The first half would be "Hostage of Paradox" featuring the same protagonist.

Company of Stone: A Memoir with John Rixey Moore

It's a compelling and frightening account of a special forces team lead by an American green beret commanding a squad of Chinese mercenaries. The fact that he survives is surprising ,but one can't help but wonder how he will cope back in the' civilized world. Simply said he was ready for a life changing " do over.

I have favorite characters and events that transpire on his journey and you will as well. No other way to say this : John Rixey Moore is gifted writer who scoops you up in his world of rich description, and doesn't let you go until you have turned the last page. Even then you are not sure you have escaped because your mind continues to remind you of scenes that are somewhat indelible Highly Recommended!!

After reading this author's first book about his tour in Vietnam and the effect it had on him, I was left with a feeling of numbness in the author's being. My heart ached for him and I felt sadness for what he had lost. I read many parts of this book twice so as not to miss the wisdom laced throughout the pages.

I found myself engrossed by the isolation of the monastery and the danger of the mine.

Chris Christie says FBI raid on Roger Stone was "overkill"

The insight and strength the author took from the people he met during both of these experiences helped him to move forward. I was left with a sense of hope and a desire to look a little deeper into my own experiences. Thank you for a great book! One person found this helpful. Make sure you have nothing else pressing when you begin. Moore's Hostage of Paradox is a classic. Equal to any military history I've ever read. A first person narrative, one can feel the tension, taste the total fear. Company of Stone is a strangely poetic wind down from Hostage of Paradox.
